Background

Experiential marketing, without starting from zero

Dr. Kate Tulibaski taught MKTG 409, with a class size of 400+ students.

Marketing is difficult to teach through written assignments and multiple-choice questions alone. Students need to practice decisions: choosing segments, building campaigns, analyzing tradeoffs, and defending recommendations.

After reviewing simulations previously used in Dr. Lisa Troy’s MKTG 409 course at Texas A&M, Dr. Tulibaski was able to adapt this tested simulation set for her own marketing course.

The challenge

Experiential learning was needed quickly.

Building applied simulations from scratch can take time. Professors need scenarios, rubrics, grading logic, student instructions, and confidence that the assignments will work.

Dr. Tulibaski needed a faster path to experiential learning for a large marketing course.

Hard to do quickly
Design realistic marketing scenarios
Build rubrics from scratch
Test grading rationale
Prepare student instructions
Launch to 400+ students
Trust the model before using it in class
The shift

A tested course model became adaptable.

Cartedo made it possible to adapt a marketing simulation set that had already been used in a similar course context. Rather than starting from zero, the course could review existing simulation structure, adapt the scenarios, and monitor student engagement and grading rationale.

The setup was completed quickly, giving the course a faster route to applied marketing practice.

The adapt-and-launch loop
1
Start proven

Begin from a simulation set already used in a similar course.

2
Tailor

Adapt the scenarios to the course context and rubric.

3
Launch

Assign applied marketing practice in days, not weeks.

4
Monitor

Track engagement and review grading rationale.

5
Iterate

Refine the scenarios term over term.

The outcome

Speed came from trust.

The strongest value was not only fast setup. It was fast setup using a simulation model that already had a track record in a similar marketing course.

Cartedo supported both custom professor-created simulations and reusable course-aligned simulation sets.

A trusted course model traveled to a new campus — adapted for 400+ students in one day.
Student responses

Anonymized student reflection themes.

“This felt more applied than a normal marketing assignment.”

“I had to choose a strategy and explain why it made sense.”

“The scenario made the marketing concept feel more real.”

“It helped me understand how a campaign decision actually works.”

The takeaway

Professors do not always have to start from scratch.

Cartedo supports fully custom simulations — but it can also help a similar course adapt a simulation set that has already been tested elsewhere. Kate’s course reviewed an existing structure, tailored the scenarios to her students, and launched quickly.

The result was a faster route to applied marketing practice.

For large courses, that can cut setup time dramatically and make experiential learning far easier to stand up. Which changes the first question a busy professor tends to ask:

Can I get experiential learning running this term — without building every simulation from zero?
